Yes!
The material used in your casting appointment is non-toxic, non-allergenic and skin-safe. It is a water-based alginate material made of seaweed extract.
Alginate is the material dentists use to make molds of teeth. It sets quickly, is easy to remove and captures fine detail. Plus, it’s biodegradable.

When you schedule your appointment online, you’ll choose which casting you’d like to be made. Review our online galleries to see the many options available.
Appointments are held at our private studio in Kirkwood. The experience is fun and memorable!
A mold will be made based on the casting(s) you desire. For example, for a couple hand casting, two individuals will hold hands, submerge their hands in the alginate material, wait approximately 2 minutes, and then gently remove their hands from the mold. When hands come out of the mold, they are surprisingly clean!
You’ll then choose the type of finishing and display option you’d like for your casting. For example, hand-applied paint, frame and mat options. Our beautiful paint choices include metal-like finishes, such as bronze and silver.
After the mold is created, a stone sculpture will be made from it. This process is completed after you leave the studio. Casts are ready to take home about 6-8 weeks after your appointment.

Adult casting appointments take about 1 ½ hours. Baby, children and family casting appointments take about 1 ½ - 2 hours.
The actual casting time is quick! Simple casts such as baby hands and feet only take about 1 minute each. However, the preparation prior to making the mold and choosing the finishing and display options after, takes additional time.
We plan for extra time during appointments so everyone is relaxed. If we finish faster than expected, wonderful!
Please note the actual casting time for Family Stars and Family Circle casts require participants to stay very still for approximately 30 minutes. Thus, these casts are better suited to well-behaved children aged 6 years and above.

A successful casting of babies and children begin with choosing an appointment time that is best for them. Meaning, children that are rested, fed and happy are much easier to work with (the same is true for adults!).
So, when scheduling your appointment, please consider your child’s meal and nap schedule. For babies, it’s ideal if the little one is sleeping or distracted by nursing or bottle-feeding. Plus, the younger the child, the easier the casting, typically (because they’re sleeping often and are less fidgety).
Babies can be casted as young as one week old. Plus, babies grow so quickly! So, the earlier they’re casted after birth, you’re able to capture their perfect tiny hands and feet just as they arrived in this world!
